Carer Training

We help you build the confidence to foster.

You do not need to arrive knowing everything.

Good foster carers are not born with all the answers. They are supported, trained and encouraged to keep learning.

At Little Acorns, our training helps you understand the needs of children who have experienced trauma, loss, change and uncertainty. It also gives you practical tools for everyday fostering life.

Our training and development includes:

  • Skills to Foster preparation
  • Safeguarding and child protection
  • Safer caring
  • Understanding trauma and attachment
  • Separation and loss
  • Managing behaviour and big emotions
  • Record keeping
  • First aid, health and safety
  • Supporting education
  • Building identity and self-esteem
  • Helping young people prepare for independence

You will also have regular support groups where you can learn from other foster carers, share experiences and feel part of a wider community.

Training is not about ticking boxes. It is about helping you feel more confident, more prepared and more able to give children the care they need.
