Could you change the direction of a child’s life?
Foster with Little Acorns and help give a child safety, stability and belief when they need it most.

When Bebe came to Mick and Pauline at 11, she needed safety, patience and someone who would keep showing up. Years later, she is a world-class para-athlete — and she calls Mick her granddad.

Watch Mick and Bebe’s story — then find out whether fostering could be right for you.

The Difference is You

Fostering may be more possible than you think

You could foster if you:

  • Have a spare bedroom
  • Are over 21
  • Can offer patience, stability and care
  • Are single, married or living with a partner
  • Rent or own your home
  • Work, are retired or claim benefits
  • Have children of your own, or no children
  • Do not have formal childcare qualifications

Across the UK, tens of thousands of children are growing up in care — and there are simply not enough foster carers to give them the safe, stable homes they need. The shortage is real. And behind every statistic is a child waiting for someone to say yes.

Too often, fostering is judged by the difficult stories that make the headlines. But those stories are only a small part of the picture. Every day, foster carers provide safety, routine, patience and care to children who need a chance to recover, rebuild and believe in something better. Done well, fostering does far more than offer a child a place to stay.

It can change the direction of their whole life.

Every child deserves to feel safe. Right now, there are not enough foster carers for the children who need them. That means children and young people are waiting for homes where they can feel secure, supported and cared for.

Could you be there when a child needs someone most?

Mick Davis knows what fostering can make possible.

He and his wife Pauline began fostering later in life, after years of supporting children through a charity that brought Romanian orphans to England for holidays.

Since then, they have cared for two long-term foster children and supported nearly a hundred more through respite.

One of those children was Bebe Jackson.

Bebe came to Mick and Pauline aged 11, during an incredibly difficult time for her family. She was loud, outgoing, full of energy — and quietly unsure of the home she had just arrived in.

What Mick and Pauline could not have known then was that Bebe would go on to represent Great Britain as a para-athlete, with her sights now set on the Los Angeles Paralympics.

Today, Bebe calls Mick her granddad.

That is what the right foster home can do.

It can offer safety, but also belonging, belief and the chance for a child to become who they were always capable of being.

A man, Mick Davis, is sat being interviewed about his role as a foster carer.

When Bebe first came into Mick’s care, athletics was not part of the plan.

The only priority was giving her somewhere safe to live.

Then came school sports day. Bebe lined up against able-bodied children — and won. Easily. It was the first glimpse of something extraordinary.

She went on to become a T44 para-athlete, represent Great Britain at just fifteen, and build a career as a world-class sprinter. But behind those achievements was something simple and powerful: a foster carer who kept showing up.

Mick drove her to competitions across the country. He found the right support when she needed it. He encouraged her, believed in her, and treated her like any other child — with patience, expectation and love.

Bebe says it best:

“Mick was the one who put in all the time, all the effort. He’s supportive, kind and caring. No matter if you win, lose, or go away from it crying, he’s always there to have your back.”

That is fostering.

It is not about being perfect. It is about being steady. Being there. Giving a child the chance to feel safe, believed in, and able to grow.

Mick began fostering at 53 and says he only wishes he had started earlier.

There are children right now who need someone willing to show up for them.

That person could be you.
